Join me in Sedona Arizona to discuss the latest techniques in collage arts and the spirit that inspires imagery on the page. This four day, Collage Discovery Intensive workshop, will focus on composition and design, color mixing and expanded color palettes. You will learn a combination of painterly techniques to enhance the surface of collage artwork and experiment with transfer methods, printmaking techniques and idea generation tools. May 15-17th 2009 - Assemblage workshop in Bonita Springs, FL
Inspired Claudine's book, Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected, this three day, intensive collage workshop will focus on techniques, color, and composition when used in the assemblage format. You will learn a combination of painterly techniques to enhance the surface of your collage artwork and experiment with transfer methods, printmaking techniques and idea generation tools.

After we've gotten our hands dirty, we'll put together a series of 3-d cigar-box collages, using the depth of the cigar box format to bring prominent elements to the foreground. I'll also show you how to become more comfortable with using your own drawing and line work in your collages along with exercises to practice and tips you can use right away. beyond unexpected: creating a 3-d collage: Inspired my book, Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected, we'll delve into creative painterly techniques using household materials. After we've gotten our hands dirty and backgrounds worked out, we'll put together a 3-d cigar-box collage, using the depth of the cigar box format to bring prominent elements to the foreground. paper and fabric book on canvas: Have you ever created an amazing book project only to have it sit alone on a shelf? Well now you can create your book and hang it on the wall! From my book, Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected, we will create a fabric book using unstretched and unprimed canvas. You'll learn how to customize the canvas with paints and tints. We'll add collage papers and other elements to finish the cover. A variety of background techniques will be demonstrated. The finished book will be mounted to a 8x10 stretched canvas for easy display on a wall.

poppet® puppets: In this exciting and whimsical 3 hour class, you'll create hilarious puppets from your family photos in a new twist on the Victorian cone puppet! Amaze your friends and neighbors with the incredible moving action of your puppet! Inspired by Claudine's new Poppet collages -- now brought to life with your own photos! This class can be taught as 1/2 day (3 hour) workshop and is open to beginning-advanced students.

the frayed edge: in this class, we'll explore using unstretched and unprimed canvas as our art surface. Working with the frayed edges of the canvas, we'll be creating a look that appears found, like remnants from long ago. We'll learn how to create mono-prints using acrylic paints and waxed paper, gesso transfers, and other exciting ways to enhance our collage creations. The unstretched canvas is perfect for adding sewn on elements, fringe, buttons and other embellishments. Yum! This class can be taught as a 1 day workshop and is open to beginning-advanced students.

magazine alterology: learn exciting techniques to create amazing images and background papers with used magazines and various household products! We'll alter magazine pages to create backgrounds for collages, make incredible images to collage with and more! This class can be taught as a 1/2 day or a 1 day workshop and is open to beginning-advanced students.

waxing poetic: the art of beeswax collage. Learn how to create a collage entirely with beeswax - no other glues or adhesives are necessary! You'll learn beeswax transfers, stamping in wax, layering collage elements, transparency, glazing colors and more! This class can be taught as a 1 or 2 day workshop and is open to beginning-advanced students.

xerography printmaking: learn how make amazing antique and distressed looking prints using plain old xerox copies! Using oil paints as printing inks, you'll learn how to ink the xerox "plate", print from the plate and layer images on your print. You can print onto a variety of surfaces, wood, fabric, metal papers etc. After we have made our prints we'll experiment with collaging them together to create a finished artwork. This class can be taught as a 1 or 2 day workshop and is open to beginning-advanced students.

adventures in color: stuck in a rut with your collage color choices? Do you find yourself always reaching for the same color combinations? This is the class for you! We'll cover color theory, color mixing, using color to create a successful composition, keeping a color journal and more. After you learn how to mix your own paint colors (yes you can!) we'll create collages using our new found color knowledge. We will finish off the day with a round-robin collage exchange that is sure to get your color wheels moving! This class can be taught as a 1 day workshop and is open to beginning-intermediate students.

solving the composition conundrum: we all know that having a successful composition is the key to having a successful work of art. In this class you will learn the tricks of the trade to help you create successful compositions in your collage and mixed media artwork. Claudine will show you some her favorite composition tips and techniques for enhancing your artwork, then we'll create collages using our new composition knowledge. Learn a variety of techniques using regular household materials combined with paint to create amazing effects! Techniques covered range from; masking, frottage, sponging, scraping, texturing, glazing and more! These are new background techniques that are offered in addition to the background surfaces covered in my collage/assemblage class.
